Wrapping...UGH!

So most people who know me would say I'm creative....crafty.  I think I am too if I do say so myself.  When it comes to Christmas I like to decorate, drag my feet when it comes to decorating the trees but have fun once I get started but wrapping??  I really dislike doing it!  I was thinking, as I was using up the wrapping paper, ribbon and bows from last year, that I need a theme....buy only what goes with my theme and wrap everything the "same".  I laughed when my cousin Jennifer posted on FB today that her theme was red, black, white and silver (I think) for her gift wrapping this year and I'm sure she's been doing the themes for years.....she has beautiful wrapping!!  Wish she wasn't 2000 miles away!!!  She could do mine!  LOLOL!!  I have most everything wrapped...the stuff I have.....so I'm good now.

Here are the trees for this year.  I bought the skinny tree on sale at Michaels this year.....I was worried about how I was going to decorate it but most of the primitive/country ornaments I used have wire and it worked well.  I love this tree! Both are terrible photos....taken on my cell phone.

This tree is totally opposite of anything I have done in the past.  Glass ornaments!!!!  LOL  The ribbon is still burlap (gotta keep the country!) with some sparkle.  I like it at night....during the day I see the missed spaces.  I don't really like this Costco tree.....hard to decorate and smells like plastic!  Maybe one day I will get a real tree for down there.....not far to haul in and out so the needles will be more or less contained! (is that possible?)

As I decorated the trees I thought about how this was the 2nd year of no cats and how much less stressful it is!  hahahaha!  They are likely un-decorating Daughter2s tree!

Twelve more days until Christmas.  My family is arriving on the 23rd.  Wow...where did this year go?  Why do we say that every year??  :oD

Our Visitors

Last weekend we had visitors!!!!  Jenna and Jude came down for a visit!  How lucky we are to have a daughter-in-law (not official yet!) who is comfortable enough to come down to visit without our son.   These two had a couple of visits.  It's funny what a difference 5 months makes in that first year but they are both growing and changing sooooooo much!!!!!

We all went to the 30th Annual Santa Claus Parade here in town!  Here is the big guy!!!  Jude slept through a lot of it (all tucked in and cozy warm in his stroller) but Lyla loved the lights and music!  The wind was chilly so we headed for home right after Santa passed by!

This little girl was hamming it up for her Mommy!  Getting ready to go have pics done by a photographer.....she didn't smile much once she got there apparently!  hahaha  Typical!

And this little dude turned five months old this month!!!!!  He has smiles for everyone!!!

My friend Sue came over for a sewing day this week.  We both worked on the same pattern....a free pattern from Fat Quarter Shop  Jelly Roll Twist pattern

I finished mine today....I wanted to add borders to make it a bit larger.  SIMPLE FAST FUN!!  Especially when sewing with a friend!

Can you believe there are only two weeks until Christmas??  I don't have our trees up and decorated and I have nothing wrapped....I still have a couple of gifts to get too......it always gets done so I won't panic!  We've had cold temperatures here....all of Alberta actually....so staying inside at home where it's warm really appeals to me!  No excuse not to get the trees done or wrapping!  Ahhhh this coming week it will get done for sure!!  I will need some time to relax and have quiet time before our home is filled with family!!  <3

Health update:  My Dr appointment with the radiology oncologist went well.  I am going to be part of a study.  My biopsy slides will be tested for something (??) and if the levels are low I will only have to be monitored twice a year for 2 years then annually for 3 years.  I would be part of the study for 10 years!  NO radiation!!  Whoo hoo!  If the levels are high I will need radiation but there are a few options.....1) the usual, whole breast radiation for 3 1/2 weeks.  2) Radiation that focuses on the area only for 5 days OR 3) day surgery where they implant radiation seeds.  The surgery appeals to me the most out of those options but NO radiation is what I am hoping for!!!  All because my cancer was caught quickly and was so tiny!   I haven't been contacted by the study group yet....hopefully soon.  Continued or new prayers and positive thoughts would be appreciated.  :o)  Thanks to all who have been along with me on this journey so far!!  Words cannot express how much you are appreciated.  <3

It's Beginning To Look A lot Like Christmas!

The Fireplace channel is on the air!!  You know that's a sign Christmas is coming!!  I have done some Christmas decorating but the trees aren't up yet.  I have the radio station on that plays Christmas music all day....I am almost done my shopping but need to do my wrapping (yuck) and check my list again!

Here is one of my winter volunteer jobs!  I play music and do the score sheet for Daughter2's hockey games.....this game didn't end well for her....lets just say we won't have to go to the teams game this coming weekend!  She needs to suppress her frustration with the officiating!  I think it must be hereditary...my Dad spent some time in the penalty box in his day!!

This was my view this morning.....we have no snow (but we are expecting some and it is now clouding over) but it was -12C this morning and this is beautiful!  Of course the frost is now gone...but it was nice while it lasted.

Son1, Son2, Jenna and Jude are coming down this weekend!  Whoooo hooooo Grandson cuddles!!!!  Our town has it's BIG Santa Claus parade on Friday so he is coming for that.  It will be a fun weekend!

Then my consult appointment on Monday where I will finally find out what is next....maybe, just maybe I can plan my life....especially on the work front!  Fingers crossed!!!!

Last day today that our house is on the market....ONE viewing in 90 days!  We will try again in the new year.  Maybe then things will be better on the realty front.....who knows.
What is meant to happen will.

Oh I see some tiny flakes coming down!!  Not that I want snow.......tee hee!

Beauty, Babies, and Taking Care of Business!

We have been having some beautiful sunrises.  This was one from a couple of days ago.  As usual, the picture does not do it justice!!

Baby Lyla having a funny hair day!  LOL  Her and her mommy have found their own place and will be moved out by tomorrow.  I have mixed feelings.....I am happy they are still going to be living in our town!

The big boy Jude already 4 months old!  I am hoping to get to see this little munchkin and give him cuddles in a couple/three weeks!

We will be celebrating our fifth Christmas here and have never put up lights.  I caught Hubby at the right moment and we went and bought some and put them up....on November 12th and it was so warm Hubby wore shorts!  We didn't do a lot but it will add to the festive feeling this year!

Today I finished the second stocking....they are all set to be filled!  Not perfect but made with love from Grandma.  :)

Health update:  My lymph nodes are cancer free!!!  YaHoO!!  My surgeon even implied that maybe I won't need radiation.....but now I am a patient of the cancer clinic and have an appointment on December 5th to meet with the "cancer Doctor".  I was told it was for a consultation and it will be 1 to 2 hours long!  Please send prayers/positive thoughts....I am hoping my surgeon is right!

FRIENDS!!!!!!!!!

I have amazing friends...I really do!  I'm posting this not because I need my friends to buy me things or make me things but man, oh man do I ever appreciate it all!!!!  We all lead busy lives so anytime someone makes the time to do something special it means so much.

My friend Peggy lives in Exeter, Ontario and sent me my favourite chocolates made right there.  I swear I could smell them before I even opened the package!!!

My friend Sue made me this cuddle quilt.....she did some of the blocks on her new embroidery machine........this picture does not do this quilt justice....it's on my lap as I type!

My friend and neighbour Deb made us supper for tonight....sheppards pie, biscuits and salad.  YUMMMO!

Complete with dessert.....this delicious, still warm lemon meringue pie!!!  (and cookies that I haven't had room to try yet!)

My neighbour Maureen brought me flowers....this isn't a great picture of them either.....they are very colourful!

My heart is full..............amazing!  This is in addition to all the text messages and messages from Facebook....it feels so nice to know people care.  :o)  <3

Start to Finish?????

Mammogram

 Ultrasound

 Biopsy

 Surgeon's visit

After surgery

Everything went well......I slept most of yesterday afternoon/evening.  A bit sleepy today but not bad....I haven't taken much for pain killers today even though the boob is getting a bit stiff and sore but not bad.  I have to remember to take it easy for a bit.  So that part is done....now to wait to hear the results of the lymph node biopsy on November 9th.....fingers crossed!...and see when radiation will start.  Waiting...........

A Finish, Some Mountains and a Cutie

I've been working on this project for a few years even though it's very simple......it's flannel (dog hair magnet) and I had the squares sewn together ages ago!  But I wanted to hand stitch the appliqué so that is what took me awhile......I'd stitch some and it would sit.  I was tired of having it hang around and I was close to being finished so I got it done!  (quilting is still needed)  None of the squares line up.....how hard is that Jane????  Well, it's done and the kit was a gift from Son2 one year for my birthday (He was working near Moosejaw, Sask and went to The Quilt Patch...it is one of their patterns).  I did finish another even older UFO but haven't taken a picture of it yet....a project started in 2010!  That will be saved for my next post.

I do love our view on a clear day....spring, summer, fall or winter.  Here was our view the other day......look at the snow on those mountains.

Then there is this little cutie.....that giraffe was his Daddy's....a gift from his grandma so Jude's great grandma.....the perfect size to grab, hold and chew on!  I'm glad I kept things like that.  :o)

Surgery is this week.............the countdown is on!

Hockey Season

Daughter2 has started her new hockey season with the Junior Women's league in Calgary.  Their home opener was last weekend and as usual I helped in the box playing music and doing the scoresheet.  Another parent worked the clock but we had no one help in the penalty boxes.  It was Thanksgiving weekend and my Dad was down.....seeing as though he was very accustom and comfortable being in the penalty box as a player, I thought he might like to help out! :oP  Here he is chatting it up with none other than his granddaughter who came to visit him twice!  hahaha!!!  It was a good game and her team came out with the win!

Quiet weekend this weekend.....no home hockey games so we (as parents) had the weekend off!  But Hubby did something to his back so was laid up all weekend.  :o(  It was a bit better today so hopefully it will be 100% soon as he isn't one to be hurt or sick.  Thankfully there was no where we had to go or anything we had to get done so he could just rest.

I had a call with more details about what I can expect during my surgery and beyond.  Radiation will not happen right away....first we wait (there's that "w" word!) for the results of my lymph node biopsy which will take place during surgery.  IF the cancer has spread, I will undergo chemotherapy first, but I am very hopeful that will not be the case, apparently because of the type of cancer I have it is unlikely.  Radiation starts 6 - 8 weeks after surgery.  A long and drawn out process.  *sigh*  Daughter1 asked if I was nervous today........I told her I wasn't.....and mostly I'm not.  I just really want it all over.  I told my neighbour gals this weekend too....I know they will be there for me if I need them.

Today I finished some Christmas gifts for some friends, just part of their gifts that I was making.....no pics so I don't ruin the surprise.  They aren't much but it's nice to have something homemade, isn't it?  Because of this situation of mine, I'd like to get a head start..........I do have more crafting/stitching and shopping on the list!  Yikes!

Fall....or Autumn

Thanksgiving weekend has come and gone.  We had all the kids and grand babies home....and that white stuff that I wanted to stay away....didn't!  It arrived on Friday and hasn't left yet.  We are to get warmer temperatures by the end of the week.....I sure hope so!  In the meantime, these four legged family members were staying warm by the fire one morning.  When I saw them all on the one dog bed lined up like this I couldn't help but take a picture!  LOL  Grand dog Gordon is on the far left.....he's the shedding one!

Here's a pic of the white stuff when it arrived on Friday.  Everyone made it here safe and sound!  The roads were a bit scary so Son1, Jenna and Jude came on Saturday morning.

Hubby made me a quilt ladder last weekend.  It's not in this location right now and has more quilts on it but I've always wanted one!  With a crawling granddaughter we will see if it stays on the main floor where she moves around a lot as I can see it crashing on her head!

And speaking of the crawling granddaughter!  Here she is swinging!  hahaha  Really, she is having fun!  She can look so serious at times!

And then there's this little guy!!!!!  Full of smiles!  Oh they will be fun at Christmas!!!

Being a grandparent is amazing and I love these two munchkins with all my heart!!

Update on my surgery:  I get my mapping done on October 26th then surgery on the 27th.  I'm not sure when I start but I will have three weeks of daily radiation afterwards.  It will be a bit of a pain as I have to travel to north Calgary to have it....an hour drive each way.  I'm sure the time will go by quickly, I pray the weather will cooperate and I will be 100% soon, all in time for Christmas!

A New Gadget!

Have you heard about Instant Pot??  A few blogs I follow had talked about using it....and the successes they were having!  I hummed and hawed and then weakened and purchased mine from Amazon....that was several months ago and I had never used it!  It's a pressure cooker (and slow cooker) and it kind of freaked me out!  LOL  On my birthday, when Sue and Deb were here visiting, we chatted about it and I decided that was it....I was going to use it the next day (it was not inexpensive!)!  Well, first I made a whole chicken....I took this pic while the chicken was cooking....for 25 minutes! A whole chicken was done in 25 minutes...and it was good!  I needed some work on seasoning though.  Next up was a beef roast.  30 minutes......(I think or 35) and done!  And tender!  So last night I made "spaghetti"  I read on the FB group about it and a lot of people said they replaced spaghetti noodles for other noodles.  I happened to have shell noodles.....so frozen meatballs, uncooked pasta, spaghetti sauce, water, spices and 6 minutes of cooking (after it pressured up) and bam!  Supper.....we also had garlic bread.  Daughter2 and I had some leftovers for supper....baked with cheese on top....yummo!  A very handy gadget for sure!

(love Bread and Butter pickles!  haha)

I've even spent some time in my sewing room.  This super simple wallhanging was stitched...it just needed quilting so I completed that yesterday.  Now to hand stitch the binding which I hope to start tonight.

The surgeons office called and I have an appointment for a consultation on October 4th.  I am hoping surgery is shortly thereafter.  This uninvited "breast guest" has over stayed it's welcome!  Time for it to vacate the premises!!  :o)

Our little granddaughter started crawling today so we will have to watch out!!!!!!!!  I will have to do some baby proofing and safety gates will have to go up on the stairs.  Fun times!!!  :oP

Soon it will be Thanksgiving weekend.  All the kids, grandkids and even my dad will be here.  I can't wait!  I love this time of year.....I wish it would last longer.........

Yep I'm a lover of all things pumpkin......Daughter2 grabbed these for me today....even pumpkin agave!  I admit to being a lover of Starbucks' pumpkin spice lattes too!

Another bad pic of my fall mantle.  I really do love fall.  <3  Not a fan of the white stuff so it can hold off indefinitely!

It's My Birthday!

Happy Birthday to me!  In years past I found this day to be a bit depressing....no one made a big deal out of it!  LOL  Selfish thinking, I know.  But not this year.....my attitude has changed and for a good reason.  I have breast cancer.  Thankfully, the Dr's believe it has been caught early...the 'spot' is tiny and for that I am grateful.  Now I wait for a call from the surgeon's office to get this baby out!  I believe I have a guardian angel who is looking out for me.  Here's why:

We moved here in 2012.  I had never found a family Dr and had never had a mammogram (I turned 53 today!).  They scared me...the thought of these puppies being squeezed in a vice grip...YIKES!  Well, this June, if you remember, I had a nasty cold with an even nastier cough.  That cough was so bad I believe I dislocated or bruised some ribs.  It didn't want to go away and I was tired....tired of coughing and tired of not sleeping!  So, on the urging of friends and my Hubby, I called a Doctor.  Down here, IF you can find a Dr that takes new patients you first have to book a meet and greet.  Well, I was "dying" on July 5th and couldn't get to see my new Dr for a meet and greet until August 3rd!  I'd be long gone by then (tee hee) so I hauled myself into emergency...the cold eventually went away, the ribs slowly but eventually healed and on August 3rd I went to meet my new Dr.  She is a young gal, newly practicing and she put me through the ringer...and for that I am thankful.  Besides the usually "old lady" tests for colon cancer, cholesterol, diabetes and pap test I was sent for a mammogram.  You know what?  The squeeze wasn't that bad (as I wrote in a previous post).  I was called back for an ultrasound and then a biopsy.  On Friday, September 16th, I got my results.  So my guardian angel made sure I was sick enough to seek out a Dr (because honestly, I likely wouldn't have) and kept me on track by going to my appointments.

Apparently this little spot, which was found by the radiologist with the highest breast cancer detection rate in all of Alberta (thanks guardian angel!!) appears not to have spread anywhere.....but it will if left alone.  So I am anxious to get it out.  The surgeon will likely perform a lumpectomy and will confirm whether or not it has spread and I am unsure of what else I will have to do but I WILL do it all!  Whatever is asked of me!

The moral of my story is that I hope other women are not scared to have a mammogram as early detection is so important and we all have a life to live.....for me I have children and grandchildren to be here for and quite possibly a dream to fulfil (although if we sold here and found an acreage I might be content to just be in the quiet country air with Hubby, our dogs and my own stitching....I just read two of Susan Branch's books and I loved her story of being in a little cottage....you likely have no idea what I am talking about!  LOL!).  As my BFF Kim said, this will be a blip in my life.  For me it was a wake up call to learn about how important it is to take care of myself as I have never been a run-to-the-dr kind of person.

So I will not sit and sulk this year.  I have to go to work with little munchkins this afternoon who are happy to see me, want me to play with them and they make me smile!  Daughter 2 said she will cook me supper and I will likely have a visit from my pal Sue.  Maybe I'll get some sewing or stitching in today.  Life is great...it truly is!

It's Listed...Now What?

Again I apologize for being MIA. A LOT has been going on in our lives.  First this happened:

In order to even think about "the dream" we have to downsize.  :o)  We have only had one showing and that was this past Sunday.....our realtor is on vacation and another company showed it and we have had no feedback....but no offer either so they must not have been interested.  We are in no rush and have it listed until the end of November and then we will pull it off the market.  I thought it was going to be easy with mainly me and the dogs home.  We officially listed on a Monday and on Tuesday Daughter2 and our granddaughter moved back home....oh and her shedding-like-crazy-dog Gordon!  So its been a bit stressful but I am trying not to drive myself insane!  :oP

We had visitors again the long weekend and these two are so completely different in looks!  Lyla now has 4 teeth!  Jude is getting some too.  Fair and dark....LOVE them both so much!!!!!!

The seasons are really changing here.  Leaves are turning, it's getting so much cooler.  In fact we had quite the frost this morning on the grass.  I don't work on Mondays so decided it was time to pull out some fall decor yesterday...but not too much because of the house being listed...I mainly just did the mantle.

Here's the bench at our front door:

One of the mums I bought at Home Depot:

There is snow on the mountains now and I doubt it will be going away.  Soon it will be the busy weekend of hot air balloon races, historic house tours and the car show.  I can't wait!  LOVE LOVE LOVE watching the balloons fly over the house in the morning.  This all happens in a couple of weeks from now!!

Hopefully in the next post I can show you something creative I've made!  Not that I have been working on anything!  The new Quilt Sampler magazine had an adorable table runner pattern in it that would be great for our big dining room table.....lots of little log cabin blocks though so who knows if it will happen for this year.

Off to work this afternoon......sun is shining, sky is blue......perfect!

Visitors and the Big Squeeze

We had some adorable visitors last weekend.  These three came to see Grandma and Grandpa....grand-dog Leela, grandson Jude and DIL Jenna!  Son1 was going to be away for the weekend so Jenna thought it was a great time to get out of the house and did I mind if they came down here??  Ummmmm NO, don't mind at all!!!!!!!!

Jude was one month old on the 8th!  How can that month go so quickly????????  Here he is on the quilt I made him.  :)  Jenna said he was posing!

I finally had my "meet and greet" appointment with my new Dr.  She seems very nice, young enough to be my daughter and she said I could call her by her first name!  Hmmmm wonder how easy that will be??  Didn't you earn the title of Doctor?  She ran me through the mill, sending me for blood work, stool sample (too much information??  HAHAHA) and had me call for a mammogram appointment.  I was feeling pretty great with being all responsible and having these tests done and booked my appointment for today.....and as the morning went on I got myself a little worked up about it.  But, I kept taking deep breaths, calmed myself down and put on the big girl panties!  It really wasn't that bad!  Now the tech reminded me that often, after the radiologist reads the X-rays, a woman gets a request to return for further tests.  She said it was no reason to panic.......most times things turn out fine.....so all the way home I was wondering if a) it was something she was required to say to all new patients or b) she saw "something"??  More deep breaths..........here I am sporting my fancy gown,  complete with ties in the front, while waiting to be called in.

I will see my Dr again the week after next for the other lovely female test and go over the results of the tests I have already had.  I pray I come out of it with a clean bill of health because I need to be healthy for those grand babies and I have a dream to catch!  ;)
